Marketing & communications manager

Brief: As COVID lockdowns began to ease, starting and working remotely, I was part of the strategic communications and public affairs team, collaborating with C-Suite leaders across Retail, Commercial, and the whole of bank.

ANZ then employed upwards of 50,000 employees across Australia, New Zealand, China, Malaysia and India. Australia Retail encompassed around 16,000 employees around Australia, and Commercial, 5,000.

I was responsible for helping to build and protect the bank's reputation, develop value propositions, market and communicate new products, COVID-19 communications, M&A, regulatory, joint-venture, people transformation communications, and strategic initiatives. I was also a member of the COVID-Communications Crisis Response Team, ghost-writing whole of Australia bank (~30,000 employees) communications for the Chief Risk Officer.

Results: I delivered more than 10 complex initiatives across Australia, New Zealand, China, Malaysia and India in less than 24 months, including:

  • COVID and return to work

  • Joint Venture internal communications strategy
    (ANZ Worldline)

  • Merger & Acquisition and legal and regulatory (Wealth divestment, Retail Run and Insolvency)

  • New product (ANZ Financial Wellbeings)

  • People transformation (600 people across Wealth Division - AU, NZ, China, Philippines India)

marketing operations & Communications Manager

Brief: Working completely remotely during COVID-Lockdowns, Ben managed external Member communications and led a team of seven Communications Managers and a contract Project Manager, during a period of significant industry and organisational change for Australia’s fifth largest Super Fund, with $85bn under management, UniSuper.

Results: In less than a year, Ben oversaw:

  • The delivery, e-and-social-distribution to 300,000+ Members of this video, among 56 other projects

  • All Member Communications (Onboarding, new product and product change comms, Chief Investment Officer video updates, Member Magazines, SENs)

  • Choice of Fund Campaign Communications

  • Member Communications from Chief Investment Officer

  • Sustainability and Environment policy communications

  • Royal Commission Outcome communications

  • Insurance Compliance Project (delivered by a contract project manager)

  • Implementation of agile (virtual squads) ways of working across brand & comms team
