Higher education Skills & Training Portfolio

Brief: Embedded client side, Ben Walkenhorst was briefed to oversee the Higher Education and Skills Strategic Communications portfolio.

Reporting to:

  • Deputy Secretary Higher Education

  • Executive Director Communications

  • Strategic Communications Manager

  • Minister for Skills and Training (Strategic Communications Department Adviser)

Strategy:

  1. Write the Victoria Higher Education Skills & Training $620m Communication Strategy and oversee $5.3million in consumer campaigns, World Skills Olympics sponsorship and a $250K community attitudes survey.

  2. Provide strategic communications and media advice to the Minister for Skills & Training relating to dodgy RTOs.

  3. Provide strategic branding advice to the Victorian TAFE Association on its corporate rebrand.

Results:

  • Initiated Consumer Protection Tick the Boxes Consumer Campaign ($300K+)

  • Oversaw Auto Supply Chain Workers' Awareness Campaign ($1million inc $200K media)

  • Oversaw World Skills Australia Olympics Communications Strategy ($1.75mil. sponsorship)

  • Adviser on Victorian TAFE Association rebrand ($2million)

  • Oversaw MacKenzie Report Government Response Communications strategy (BTL)
